THE TEMPORAL FRONT: Domocrats falsely claim concern for fellow Americans

Something happened this week that shows the hypocrisy of theleft in this country.

Every time we turn around, the democrats tell us how"compassionate" they are, or how "concerned" they are for theirfellow Americans. They tell us day in and day out that thisPresident is a failure, and his programs are all a bunch oflies.

They raise taxes and spend it on bureaucratically bloatedprograms that spend more money on administration than on helpingthose in need.

But then when the truth comes out, they show how trulyhypocritical they are in their very own lives.

What I am talking about is the "Generosity Index" released thisweek by the Catalog for Philanthropy. The Generosity Index issimple: It takes the total amount of income by state and thencompares that to its charitable giving and gives it an indexrating.

You would think that liberals, with all their "compassion" and"concern" would be the highest givers. If you believe whatdemocrats everywhere tell us, you would think that "evil"republicans with all their greed and indifference would be at thebottom of the index. Well, they are half right.

Republicans are at the bottom of the list. New Hampshire, astate won by George W. Bush, is at the bottom of the list. Theyhave the 8th-highest level of income, and the 48th-highest level ofgiving. Unfortunately for democrats, they are the exception to therule.

Of the top 20 states in the Generosity Index, all 20 of them are"red" states, or states won by George W. Bush in the 2000 election. The top 40 percent of givers in this country based on ability arerepublican states.

Of the bottom 20 states in the Generosity Index, 15 of them are"blue" states, or states won by Al Gore in the 2000 election.

So what, right? Who cares that republicans give more thandemocrats, that doesn't mean anything does it?

Well, actually it does. It means when democrats harp thatrepublicans want to cut (insert useless, bloated government programhere) because they don't care about (insert less fortunate grouphere), they are just full of hot air.

The republicans believe so strongly that private organizationscan do it better, that they actually give their money to thoseprivate organizations.

Democrats, who tell us how concerned they are for theunemployed, can't match donations to assistance programs. They tellus that they are concerned about the victims of natural disasters, but their donations speak otherwise. They whine and moan aboutprograms for inner-city youths and after-school programs, but redstates donate more money of their own free will to thoseprograms.

In the end, it boils down to what most Republicans believe: ifyou quit stealing funds from the citizenry to fund a big, fat, bloated program full of kickbacks and waste, people will donatetheir money to programs they believe in. When conservatives seepeople in need, they donate their precious dollars or theirpersonal time to help.

When it comes right down to it, churches and not-for-profitsmake more of an impact than government programs because peoplespend their own time and money to help others.

We don't need more government to help our fellow Americans, weneed less.
