The women's tennis team is heading to East Lansing for Michigan State's Spartan Cup. Mid-American Conference teams Bowling Green and Toledo, as well as Cincinnati, will be competing.
The team carries momentum from last weekend when Ball State took the Flight A and C Singles and went 7-8 in doubles. Head coach Kathy Bull said he hopes this momentum carries on into this week.
"With the performance that we came off of last weekend, we want to take that and apply it against the Big Ten team and send message to MAC teams," she said.
This was a short week for the team. They had a day off early in the week and left for East Lansing.
"Fall Break is early this year, and it gave us only two days to focus on this thing," Bull said. "From the coaching standpoint, I'm a little rushed. But it's easier coming off a good weekend than a horrible weekend."
Because the team only had two days to work before this weekend, Bull decided to work on two main points.
"We need to put ourselves out there and go after the ball instead of waiting for it to come to us," she said. "We also need to work on movement with our partners, getting both players to move at the same time. You can't play good doubles without that."
This tournament will mark the first time the team has seen Bowling Green, Toledo and Cincinnati this year. The team previously met Michigan State at the Bronco Invitational at Western Michigan.
Bull said he looks forward to facing Michigan State again.
"We matched up a little with MSU earlier this year, and we were a little disappointed," she said. "We need to be more competitive with the Big Ten teams."
This is the final invitational for the team before the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals on Oct. 23 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
