WOMEN'S SWIMMING: Ball State swims past Illinois State for 185-116 victory in opening dual meet of season

Hoping to improve on its fifth place finish at the MAC championships and a 14-4 dual meet record last season, Ball State"s women"s swimming team kicked off the 2003-2004 season with a victory over Illinois State in Normal, Ill. on Friday night.

The Cardinal women won the meet 185-116, winning ten of 16 events. Seniors Emily Aubie, Joey Duncan and Kait Martin led the way, finishing with two first-place finishes each. Aubie won the 200 butterfly (2:08.72) and 200 individual medley (2:12.17), Duncan won the 1000 freestyle (10:33.94) and 500 free (5:12.55) and Martin won the 100 (59.32) and 200 (2:09.60) backstroke.

Junior Karla Bailey and sophomore Michelle Braden contributed the other two victories for the Cardinals, with Bailey winning the 100 breaststoke (1:08.58) and Braden the 200 breaststroke (2:28.98). All but four letter winners from last season's 29 are competing this year.

Both the men"s and women"s teams travel to West Lafayette this Saturday for the Indiana Intercollegiate meet at noon.++21 0 obj
