Splitting a doubleheader with Butler last Friday, the Ball Statesoftball team ended its fall season with a 6-3 record and thesatisfaction that the team has improved.
"We accomplished what we set out as far as gaining experiencefor the younger kids and see where we're at and what we need tofocus on in the off-season," head coach Terri Laux said. "We endedthe fall season on a pretty good note."
The Cardinals won the first game 5-0 after jumping out to anearly 2-0 lead in the first inning and clinching the victory withanother three runs in the sixth inning.
Sophomore starting pitcher Quincy Duran got the win afterallowing two hits in four innings, while junior Randi Freese gaveup one hit through the final three innings for the save.
"The first game was a little bit better showing because wereally attacked the ball," Laux said. "We jumped on their mistakesand got some runs because of it."
BSU lost the second game 3-0 as Butler starting pitcher MelissaBenter threw a complete game shutout.
Ball State will officially conclude its fall season in an Alumnigame Oct. 17 as the team builds momentum for the spring season.
"It's really hard to base your spring on the fall, but I thinkwe'll be improved more than we are now," Laux said. "We'll be usedto playing next to each other as well."
