The soccer team has made a habit out of winning by the slimmestof margins, and Monday night proved the same way as the Cardinals(10-6-2) slid by Wright State (8-9-1) 1-0.
Forward Dee Nocero, who has carried the team with twogame-winning goals in the past two games, scored the goal.
Head coach Ron Rainey said the conditions of the Wright Statefield were bad.
"I don't know if they got more rain than we did or if theirfield holds more water, but there was standing water on the field,"he said.
Despite the poor conditions, Rainey said the offenses were ableto work well and move freely, but the defense had trouble reactingto the offenses.
"It was like the (Ball State) football game against Toledo," hesaid. "The defense couldn't close down, so when the offensepossessed the ball they were able to do things with it," hesaid.
The win pushes the Cardinals to 10-3 in one-goalmatches.
Goalies Megan Swafford and Alison Becker combined for theshutout, marking the seventh time this season the Ball Statedefense has held the opponent scoreless.
Rainey said the play of his two forwards Nocero and Kate Nadalinwas excellent, and they fed off each other well against theRaiders, he said.
