Separation Saturday took its toll on college football teams across the nation.-áBall State and the rest of the Mid-American Conference will witness similar drama this weekend in women's soccer.
The MAC Tournament is approaching with two undefeated teams: Kent State and Eastern Michigan, and-áthey will battle on Friday.-áA glut of programs packed into the next few slots lay beyond the top two teams.
Ball State (7-3-2, 5-2-1 MAC) possesses the third spot, but five other teams stand one game behind Ball State, and the teams are hoping for any slip in the caliber of the Cardinals' play.-á
Only the top eight teams in the league qualify for the conference tournament.
Head coach Ron Rainey has said throughout the season that the conference is evenly matched from top to bottom, and the results of the games to this point have confirmed his opinion.
Ball State will travel away on consecutive weekends, but Rainey said the trip to Marshall (2-11-1, 2-6-0) for Friday's match will not fatigue his team mentally or physically.
"A road trip doesn't play a factor," he said.-á"The key is to get a good night of rest Thursday night so you can have good energy and not have to rush around."
The Cards travel to Ohio (4-9-1, 2-5-1) Sunday to face the Bobcats, a team that has endured a frustrating season. They rest in 11th place in the conference, though coaches predicted them to win the regular-season title.-á Rainey said he did not know why Ohio has struggled, but he said Eastern Michigan's head coach, Scott Hall, called Ohio the best team he has seen all year.
Rainey said his team had some crisp practices this week, including a session that was shortened due to the cold and rainy conditions Tuesday.
