The offseason saw turbulent times for the men's volleyballprogram, but the Cardinals have at least another year to playbecause the axe of elimination fell elsewhere.
The young team, which includes three seniors, will play in theQuincy Tournament at 9 a.m. Sunday in Illinois againstLindenwood.
"There are a lot of games in one day," he said. "I have to keepfresh players on the floor.The way the tournament is set upencourages me to keep guys fresh."
Walton also said he will determine which players work besttogether to determine their chemistry for later matches.
The eight teams are broken up into two pools: Group A teams areMissouri Baptist, Iowa State, Cardinals Stritch andQuincy.�Group B teams are Ball State, Lindenwood, Augustanaand Milwaukee Tech.
Barring any upsets, Ball State and Quincy should meet in thefinal Sunday night, Walton said.
Instead of playing best-of-five sets like the regular season,teams will play two 30-point games in pool play. Pointdifferentials will break any ties.
In the playoffs, the teams will play the best of three games.The third game is played to 15 points.
Last year the Cardinals finished 19-9 and placed third in theMidwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. The teamadvanced to the semifinals, but Loyola of Chicago eliminated them3-1.
This year, however, the team must learn to function without theexplosive force of Matt Denmark, who graduated and contributed tothe U.S. Men's Volleyball World University Games team that won thebronze metal in August.
