The Cardinals are hoping their seasons won't be as scary as thenight they play their first public scrimmages: Halloween.
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Cards will brave trick or treaters asthey show their skills to the public during Ball State's firstHalloween HOOP-la.
In the past, the university introduced the teams at MidnightMania, but Chris Taylor, director of GameDay Experience andElectronic Media, said the earlier time allows younger fans alongwith college students to come.
"We were looking for a way to get away from Midnight Madness,"he said."This type of thing is starting to become anational trend, and more people can attend during a six-to-ninetime frame."
This year, the younger generation can trick or treat for freestarting at 6 p.m.
Also, Taylor said, the program will cater more to fans.
"It's more interactive," he said. From six to nine everyone canbe face to face with athletes and coaches."
Starting at 8:15 p.m., fans can meet with both 2003-04basketball teams. Students can learn plays from the coaching staffor take tours of John E. Worthen Arena.
To close out the evening, the men's and women's teams will have15-minute scrimmages.
The HOOP-la will also include an alumni game. Head coach TimBuckley has received verbal commitments from Chandler Thompson,Curtis Kidd and Paris McCurdy to play in the game. The three teamedtogether to lead the Cardinals to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAATournament in 1990 -- the best finish for a Ball State basketballteam in history.
The No. 12 seeded Cardinals lost 69-67 to the UNLV Rebels, whotook the championship.
Taylor said the alumni game ties the young and old Ball Statebasketball generations.
