The Ball State women's cross-country team finished third at theIndiana Intercollegiate this weekend. Twenty-two teams and 187runners competed for the right to be the top team in the state.
With 79 points the Cardinals finished behind Purdue which had 67points and Indiana which had 36 points.
"I wish we would of finished ahead of Purdue," head coach SueParks said. "I think that was realistic."
Ball State had another solid performance from their top threerunners, all placing within the top ten. Junior Jill Scullyfinished third with a time of 18:03 and senior Crystal Meeksfinished fourth with a time of 18:12. Junior Sarah Huddlestonfinished seventh with a time of 18:24. All three ran competitivelywith Indiana, but Indiana just had a little too much in the end,Parks said.
"The top three are doing a good job. They got up there and mixedit up with Indiana, a top 15 team," Parks said.
Freshman Rose Lehe remained strong at the number four team spotwith a time of 18:49 giving her a 21st-place finish. Junior AubreyGaffer took up the fifth team spot after finishing 44th with a timeof 19:26.
Other runners for the Cardinals were Nicole Hartford with a timeof 19:29, Lindsay Keazer with a time of 19:38, Amanda Ponsot with atime of 20:02 and Lindsay Moldstad with a time of 20:56.
The course was a little slower, which allowed seven of the ninerunners to run their seasonal bests.
The number five team spot remains the question mark for the teamright now. While the gap between the fourth and fifth runnerscontinues to decrease with every race, the team still needs arunner to step up and fill the fifth team spot.
Parks said, "As long as we have people improving and makingstrides to close the gap, I feel good about where we're at."
