The women's soccer team (1-2-1) will not get a break thisweekend. After an already difficult schedule, things will gettougher with two road games on Friday and Sunday.
At the beginning of the season, the Mid-American Conferencecoaches voted the Cardinals as the favorite to win the postseasontournament, but a sluggish start to the year has the team searchingfor a rhythm.
Ball State enters the weekend off its best defensive outing ofthe year, holding Xavier scoreless through two overtime periods. The two matches this weekend will provide a severe test for BallState, head coach Ron Rainey said.
"We have to play our best two games of the year to win," hesaid.
Friday, the Cardinals travel to Terre Haute to face IndianaState (1-1). Rainey said Indiana State would be similar to theteams the Cardinals have faced throughout the season to thispoint.
"They're good off restarts," Rainey said, referring to the factthat the Sycamores scored both their goals off corner kicks againstEvansville in a 2-1 victory.
Sunday the scene switches to Miami, Ohio, and a RedHawks teamhungering for a victory. The last time Miami started the season0-2, they went to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Miami lost some players to graduation this year, but Rainey saidthey are still the top team in the league.
"They're young, but good young," he said. "It's dangerousbecause we don't know as much about the younger players. We have tolearn real quickly what their strengths are."
Ball State, which has won its last two MAC openers, is hopingthe offense can rebound from being shutout at Xavier onSunday. Junior forward Kate Nadalin spearheaded theoffensive attack last week with three goals and an assist in twogames.
