Joseph McKinney, chairman of the educational leadershipdepartment, has won the Rawlings Outstanding Distance EducationAward from the School of Extended Education.
The award was named after Joseph Rawlings, dean emeritus of theSchool of Extended Education. The prize was established in 2002 tohonor a full-time professor who has given outstanding contributionsto off-campus distance-education sites. Rawlings worked nearly 20years to create Ball State's distance-learning program.
"The award was established in order to recognize people likeJoe, who have gone beyond the call of duty to serve our off-campusstudents," said Frank Sabatine, dean of the School of ExtendedEducation. "It involves a lot of work."
Since 1996, McKinney has taught large classes via television andin person at distance-education sites in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne,Carmel, Columbus, Richmond and Goshen.
"McKinney's contribution to this program reflects his commitmentto leadership in recruiting other faculty and dedication tocontinuing education at Ball State University," Sabatine said.
