After going to Iowa this weekend with hopes of an upset, thefield hockey team suffered two losses and left the state on afour-game losing streak.
The Cardinals (3-5) lost 2-0 to No. 9 Iowa Friday, then fell toTemple 3-2 Saturday to give them their longest losing streak in twoseasons.
The team played Iowa tough, holding the Hawkeyes scoreless foralmost 27 minutes. After taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, Iowa cameout and dominated the Cardinals in the second half.
Although the Hawkeyes only scored one goal in the second period,they outshot Ball State 11-2. The also had nine penalty cornershots to the Cardinals' two. Ball State had just three shots ongoal in the game and none in the second half.
The Cardinals came out firing Saturday against Temple, puttingup a season high 23 shots. After playing a scoreless first half,Temple jumped out to a 2-0 lead five minutes into the second.
Nine minutes later, the Cardinals had tied the score on goals bysenior Afton Hess and freshman Lindsay Quay. With 14 minutes toplay, Temple scored the game-winning goal.
The team carries its four-game losing streak into Mid-AmericanConference play Friday at Miami. The Cardinals had two differentthree-game losing streaks last season, but never lost four in arow.
Even though the team lost, Hess continued to play well over theweekend. She scored her sixth goal of the season and picked up herfifth assist. Eight games into a 19-game season, Hess has more thanhalf as many goals as she had last year and the same amount ofassists.
The Cardinals have gone 1-5 after starting the season with twoconsecutive victories.
