In one of the more competitive matches of the year, the Ball State men's golf team will travel to Southern Pines, N.C. for the Mid-Pine Intercollegiate Monday
The match will feature four teams that participated in the men's golf NCAA Championships last year.
Teams participating include Ball State, Central Florida, Old Dominion, Wichita State, VCU, Wofford, Furman, Davidson, Richmond, UNC Greensboro, Miami University, Xavier San Diego State and California.
Of the five golfers traveling to the Mid-Pine Intercollegiate, four have never played at the Mid-Pines Inn and Golf Club.
"My expectation is to use this tournament as a spring board. Get some confidence going early especially in some of the younger guys and try to play well," men's golf head coach Mike Fleck said.
The younger talent on the squad comes in the form of freshmen C.D. Hockersmith and Wayne Denger, who both have played consistently throughout qualifying.
"I expect them to play well because they've gotten off to a good start," Fleck said.
The match is a two-day, 36-hole event that begins on Monday and concludes Tuesday.
"I think our expectations are to go down there and get off to a good start. I just want to get off to a good start as a team with the fall schedule," Fleck said.
