The Campus Activities Fund can help organizations through financial obstacles that stand in the way of their programs.
"Of all the student organizations, we have a very small percentage that apply for funding," said Lynda Malugen, director of student organizations and activities.
Students can attend workshops next Tuesday, Thursday and Friday to learn how to receive funding for their organizations.
"(Those interested) have to attend one of the meetings because there are so many important guidelines we have to cover," Malugen said.
Malugen said students must demonstrate how their programs will benefit Ball State.
In the past, the Campus Activities Fund Board has granted between $200 to $5,000 in proposals.
This year the CAFB has $37,000 to divvy up over the course of the school year.
The money for the funding comes from student fees that are aside from tuition, said Kay Bales, associate vice president for student life.
To receive funding, the organization cannot make a profit.
Malugen encouraged students to take advantage of these university programs because they are free.
"It's free, and you're paying for it anyway," Malugen said
Although many organizations would like to tap into the funds, certain groups who cannot apply.
Malugen said groups with a political affiliation, such as the Young Democrats, could not receive funding.
"We need to remain neutral," Malugen said. "The programs we support are open to all students."
Some of the programs funded in the past included guest speakers, film nights and festivals.
Dena Kniess, the hall director of Beeman and Demotte residence halls, said CAFB has been helpful in the past with programs in the residence hall.
"It's a well-organized program," Kniess said.
Kniess said CAFB granted them $1,000 last spring for a block party that will be held in April. The block party is part of a weekend of events for siblings known as "Lil' Kin" weekend.
"It fits the criteria for the university and is open to the whole campus," Kniess said.
Malugen said some of the reasons organizations don't use them as a resource is because groups are unaware of them or don't fill out a proposal.
