With T.W. Hudson Akin joining the University of South Carolina on March 31 as the vice president for university advancement, Charles Jaggers has been named interim executive director of university development at Ball State.
A national search to fill the position on a permanent basis will be held next year.
Don Park, vice president for university advancement said in a press release Friday that Jaggers' appointment is for the 2003-2004 school year.
"The year ahead provides a number of unique challenges, including modifying the centralized structure of university development on the Ball State campus and having limited resources with which to accomplish continued growth of the program," Park said in the press release.
"The familiarity of the program possessed by (Jaggers), along with his leadership and communication skills, provides the best opportunity for us to be successful and to modify the organization of the program, prior to conducting a search for a permanent executive director."
Jaggers will oversee the university's fund-raising efforts. The program most recently concluded its most successful campaign "Above and Beyond: The Campaign to Advance Ball State University." The campaign raised a record $112.9 million, nearly $23 million more than the goal.
Jaggers joined Ball State in 1996 as the director of university communications.
"We will be building on Ball State's excellent tradition of private support," Jaggers said in the press release. "In looking ahead, we plan to strengthen existing development programs while introducing new initiatives, which will foster giving both to the university as a whole as well as the individual colleges."
Jaggers came to Ball State after serving in three vice presidential positions at Taylor University in Upland, Ind.
Jaggers holds a master's of arts and doctorate of education degrees from Ball State.
