For Harry Potter fans, Saturday was a day long overdue. "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," the fifth book in the series by J. K. Rowling, was released with much anticipation at 12:01 a.m. Saturday. It was three years ago when the fourth book, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," was released.
Although considered by many to be a children's book, people of all ages lined up Friday night to be the first to know what happens to the famous wizard.
"I went to Meijer at midnight and got it," junior Marie Hertel said.
Hertel began reading the book later that night. "I was really looking forward to it," she said.
Hertel became a Harry Potter fan after watching the first movie.
"I have a hard time putting it down," she said.
The Border's bookstore in Indianapolis, 8675 River Crossing Boulevard, has already sold approximately 1,200 copies of the latest Potter installment. The store hosted a night of Harry Potter activities that began at 6 p.m. and led up to the midnight release the store referred to as "the witching hour."
Adam Roth, bookseller at Border's, estimated 1,000 people crowded in the store to buy the book. "The crowd was fantastic," he said. "It was what we wanted to see."
Roth, a Harry Potter fan himself, dressed like Harry for the occasion, as did many of the fans who came for the party and costume contest.
"I am enjoying every minute of it," Roth said of the book. He said this book has taken a new direction and has kept him guessing what will happen next.
Border's expects to sell out of the of the book this week, but not for long, because another shipment is already on the way.
