David Rodriguez, a 23-year-old Ball State student, died Tuesday after being hit by a CSX train traveling through Yorktown at 12:30 p.m.
"The county coroner said that he walked in front of the train and committed suicide," Yorktown Police controllman Jeff Wulff said.
Officials said the engineer saw Rodriguez and tried to stop the train. The train, however, struck Rodriguez.
When officials arrived at the scene, Rodriguez was dead.
The former BSU student's car was found parked along Andrews Road in Yorktown.
A note was written and left by Rodriquez, officials said.
He was a senior criminal justice major at Ball State.
