With four screens sold out, "The Matrix Reloaded" opened to large crowds for the Wednesday night preview at Show Place 7 in Muncie.
The theater originally was supposed to have one 10 p.m. showing, but managers added three screens. Tickets sold out well before the show started, and hopeful fans waited for a chance to get a few reserved tickets.
"The Matrix Reloaded" is the hyped sequel to the 1999 science-fiction film "The Matrix." The sequel is expected to become the highest grossing R-rated film of all time, according to boxofficeguru.com. "The Matrix Reloaded" stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Senior Ashley Farrand, like so many others, has been anticipating the release of the movie. "I hope it will be a lot better," she said as she waited to enter the theater. Farrand said she could not imagine what the sequel would be like and what the movie would entail, because the first movie was so unbelievable.
Ashley Clifton, sophomore, planned ahead to see the movie by purchasing tickets for the show four days in advance.
"I loved the first one," Clifton said. "It was kind of hard to follow, but it had a cool subject."
Clifton hopes the second Matrix movie will be even better the first, but thinks it will depend on the characters. "I hate it when the sequels have different characters," she said.
As an employee of Show Place 7, Jerry Smith, Ball State alumnus, had the opportunity to see the movie Tuesday night. Smith said the movie had a more detailed storyline and had awesome graphics.
"The first movie was so defining it's hard to compare them," Smith said.
As for the large crowds arriving at the theater Wednesday night, Smith credits it to the advertisements and promotions.
"I think it's the build up," Smith said as he checked tickets at the door. "The first one was such a big hit."
Smith said "The Matrix Reloaded" will sell out through the weekend.
