Dear Editor,
I felt the need to respond to the March 28 letter about Parking Services. The student expressing his concern felt the need to change universities due to Parking Services and how the harsh rules restrict him in the parking of his car.
I completely understand why he is upset. I got a ticket a month ago and was upset. However, I knew I was in the wrong and knew I was in line to receive the ticket.
Many people complain about Parking Services and how strict they are, but know they are in the wrong when they receive a ticket. However, if Parking Services do not enforce the rules, the rules won't be followed.
This means people who park legally won't be able to park because of illegally parked vehicles. The student admitted he knew he was in the wrong, so why he is so upset he received the ticket when he knew he was mistaken?
As for him wanting to attend another school because Parking Services is so strict, I do not understand this. If he wants to switch schools just because the parking rules are strict, why did he come here in the first place? Was it not to receive an education?
Or was it so he could park in a convenient place? I, for one, grew up in a university town, and know all universities are just as strict, if not more strict, when it comes to parking. So switching schools will not solve his problem.
The student wanting to switch schools urges students to step up and switch with him. I urge students to rethink Parking Services and remember that if the rules are not enforced, they will be broken regularly.
The rules are easy to follow, so why not abide by them and make things easier?
