Dear Editor,
After reading Rebecca Feldman Secia's 'Your Turn' column, I'm torn between laughing out loud and burying my head in my hands in anguish.
Let's examine U.S. military action based on its allies, beginning with Spain.
Before joining the current ruling party, Aznar, the leader of Spain and close supporter of Bush, was a member of the neo-fascist party.
Then there's Denmark, which has a fascist government.
Italy has a government corrupt to a fault and xenophobic enough to be fascist.
Visit the Web site of your State Department (http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/hrrpt/2001/eur/8358.htm) to find out about Turkey. Our State Department says Turkey has submitted unconvicted detainees to the following:
"Systematic beatings; stripping and blindfolding; exposure to extreme cold or high-pressure cold water hoses; electric shocks; beatings on the soles of the feet (falaka) and genitalia; hanging by the arms; food and sleep deprivation ... In some cases, multiple torture methods (e.g. hanging and electric shocks) are employed at the same time. Other methods used are forced prolonged standing, isolation, loud music, witnessing or hearing incidents of torture, being driven to the countryside for a mock execution, and threats to detainees or their family members ... "
It goes on and on.
That's not even mentioning the "ethnic cleansing" of 1.2 million Armenians by the Turkish military. We just gave Turkey another $8 billion on top of the $15 billion in aid we already gave them.
We've been courting Turkey since this whole thing started. The Turkish military has committed more atrocities than Saddam, and we kiss Turkey's ass. Why is that, Ms. Secia?
Does it seem odd when you realize most of our "Coalition of the Willing" is composed of opportunistic countries (like Central Europe, with the exception of Poland), fascists, or countries where most of the population is not "willing" to support its government when it supports this foolish war?
