Women swimmers take on Ohio, Toledo

The women's swimming and diving team comes into its final dual meet at Athens, Ohio, fresh off victories over Akron and Eastern Michigan last Saturday.

The Cardinals will take on the 2002 MAC runner-up Ohio (8-2), and rival Toledo (4-7), who beat Ball State (14-2) by a 159-124 margin last season.

The contest will be the Cardinal's last meet before the MAC Championships Feb. 27. Head coach Laura Seibold-Caudill believes it will hold some importance but will not be crucial to the team's season.

"To beat Ohio, it would take an awful lot. They are extremely strong on paper, but if they take us lightly, who knows, anything can happen."

The Bobcats are led by senior backstroke and individual medley swimmer Trisha Kessler, who set a new Ocasek Natatorium record with a time of 2:06.26 in the 200 individual medley during the Akron Invitational Dec. 5-7.

Junior Emily Aubie will compete against Kessler in the 400-yard individual medley Saturday. Aubie beat the Ohio tri-captain in a race at the MAC Championships last season.

The coach said upperclassmen Melissa Keilen, Dee Dee Wolverton and Sarah King must swim well for the Cards to have a successful outcome Saturday.
