The Student Government Association is sponsoring an open forum Tuesday for students with questions or complaints about their college experiences. The forum, which is the fourth of president Tolu Olowomeye's administration, will be held at 4 p.m. in Art and Journalism Building room 175.
Students will have the chance to ask questions to a panel. Made up of five administrators, the panel is the largest of the four forums, SGA Vice President Megan Pickens said.
"We wanted to have something broad where students could ask a wide variety of questions," she said. "Students get to pick what they want to talk about."
The panel is comprised of Douglas McConkey, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management; Thomas Lowe, associate provost and dean of University College; Kay Bales, associate vice president for student life; Bubba Cunningham, director of intercollegiate athletics; and Robbie Lopez, assistant director of housing and residence life.
Pickens said there are benefits for everyone involved in the forum. First, she said, it helps SGA.
"It's helpful for our senators," Pickens said. "We're hoping we will get a lot of ideas about what students want to see changed or improved. It's also a good thing for us to leave on and give the new administration something to build on."
A new administration will be inaugurated in March.
Pickens said the forum is also helpful for administrators who are always looking for student input. Most importantly, though, she said it is beneficial for the students who attend. Pickens said every student at Ball State probably has something they think can be done better.
"We're trying to get more students involved," she said. "This gives them a chance to see why things are the way they are."
The two other forums this academic year were a multicultural forum and a parking forum. One other forum was held during the spring 2002 semester. Pickens said the attendance at the forums vary but has increased at each one.
