It's everywhere. Plastered here. Advertised there. You can't go a day without hearing about it. I would go as far to say that almost everyone who reads this column and probably many more have heard about it.
The sad thing is, maybe half of those people will actually show up for Operation Sellout Monday night in Worthen Arena.
For those of you who are totally confused, Operation Sellout is the women's basketball team's campaign to try to break the MAC single-game attendance record.
Now I've heard it all when it comes to women's basketball being inferior to men's. "It puts me to sleep!" "It's like watching paint dry." So on and so on. I'm going to be honest and admit I've said those things a few times.
I'm not making the generalization that all women's basketball should be watched around the clock; I'm saying that Ball State's women's basketball program should be respected.
Respect, that's it. After all, they deserve it. They were preseason favorites to win the MAC West Division and so far haven't lost sight of that. Currently they have a record of 12-5 and are 6-1 in conference play. They average 79.8 points a game.
Oh, and how could I forget? They're undefeated on their home court. Undefeated is not a term you hear every day on this campus. This team's already proven it's good, now it wants some fan support.
Still need more reasons? Look at the roster of players or go to the women's basketball Web site and scroll down the features sidebar. You'll find everything from impact freshman Dana Collins to the leader of the team Tamara Bowie.
I could keep giving you reasons to attend Operation Sellout, but if all the ones I've given you aren't enough to get you out of your room and into Worthen Arena, then I'd better finish my work so I can go enjoy the game and hopefully the lively crowd.
I'm challenging everyone who reads this to go to the game Monday night. After all, I'll be looking for a column idea next week and the women's basketball team breaking the MAC single-season record sounds pretty good right now.
