Instead, a silent protest - covered by WRTV Channel 6 - was organized for Thursday, Jan. 30, and took place in the Atrium.
At the protest, the Daily News' editorial board approached representatives of BSA with a written letter respecting BSA's right to protest and requesting to hear grievances.
BSA representatives agreed to contact the Daily News later in the evening.
As of our 12:30 a.m. press time, the Daily News had not been contacted to establish this public forum.
Letters and callers have complained about Unity Week event coverage and questioned the Daily News' credibility.
Included in our coverage was a complete dedication of our forum page to MLK on Jan. 17. While one student was quoted on Jan. 21 to have slept in on MLK Day, three students praised MLK on our Jan. 17 forum page.
In five of the six issues spanning Jan. 17-27, a different event was covered on the front page. In total, six Unity Week events and two MLK Day stories were covered in the Daily News.
By contrast, the only week of events to receive more coverage under the current editorial staff was UniverCity 2002.
Accusations of privileged and biased content are unfounded.
Back issues are available in the Daily News office, AJ 278. Content is also available on the Daily News' Web site: http://www.bsudailynews.com

The Daily News is here to encourage discussion in and around the campus community. However, the Daily News needs help.
We ask that members of the Ball State community in favor of this public forum - involving the Daily News, BSA and any other interested parties - show their support in a public fashion. We are willing to listen.
The Daily News' credibility is in question, and the Daily News is ready to answer.
