Students who live on campus joined in Super Bowl fun Sunday night with a buffet party at Noyer Complex and separate parties in the other residence halls.
Chef Allen White was in charge of the Super Bowl Extravaganza at Noyer. Students could watch the game in the buffet and eat food prepared by White.
"I was going to watch it in my room but then they said it would be a nice party for just the price of a dinner," sophomore Derek Curtis said. "It's nice to watch it with a bunch of people around."
Tickets were sold for the price of a meal, $5.60. White made a nacho dip, deli sandwiches, chili and other foods.
Students could enter into a raffle for prizes such as inflatable chairs, coolers and a jacket. Dining Services, which sponsored the event, also provided 100 foam footballs for the students to toss.
Though no one else prepared an actual meal, most residence halls had their own Super Bowl parties.
Mike Schulte, freshman, opted to watch it in the lobby of Botsford and Swinford halls because of the projector screen and snacks offered.
"It's a big screen and free food, you can't beat that," Schulte said.
Students also said it was better than watching it by themselves.
"Just being with everybody, it's a good atmosphere," freshman Kyle Lukes said.
At Shively Hall, the event was a chance for the hall to get together, said Summer Williams, the hall's social committee chairwoman.
During half-time at Botsford and Swinford halls, students seemed to be split on which team they were cheering for.
"I'm for the Raiders, (I would) just like to see them win because I don't like Florida teams because I'm a (Ohio State) Buckeye fan," Schulte said.
Though the Raiders were down by 17 at the half, Schulte wasn't the team's only fan.
"I'm for the Raiders - they're old," sophomore Moses Malone said. "I'd like to see Jerry Rice win one more before he retires."
Not everyone felt the same.
"(I'm for) Tampa Bay because they're winning," freshman Emily Harner said.
Some Raider fans had to admit their team probably wouldn't win.
"Tampa Bay will probably win because their defense is the best," Malone said.
Though students were cheering for their teams, most felt this game wasn't as good as past Super Bowls.
"The game's been pretty lopsided, and I thought it would have been closer scoring," freshman Michael Fox said.
Others felt Tampa Bay had the upper hand.
"It would be better if they were better matched because Tampa Bay is kind of dominating," freshman Emily Harner said.
