Former Ball State basketball player signs with New Jersey Nets

Seven-foot center Lonnie Jones, who finished his basketball career at Ball State last March, signed a contract with the New Jersey Nets of the National Basketball Association on Tuesday. Terms of the contract were unavailable at press time.

With the addition of Jones, who had been waived by Nets on Oct. 7, New Jersey's preseason roster now lists 17 players.

Jones left Ball State as the all-time leader in blocked shots in both school and Mid-American Conference history, totaling 301 rejections. His total of 89 as a senior broke the school's single-season record. He also ranks third, fourth and fifth on the single-season chart. Jones' 678 career rebounds ranks eighth on BSU's all-time list.

As a senior Jones started in 33 of 34 games played, averaging 7.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game.

Jones is now one of two former Ball State players currently on an NBA roster. The other is Bonzi Wells (1994-98), who is with the Portland Trail Blazers and led the team in scoring this last season.4420"+â-¦-»*+â-älonniejonesbrief 10.17DNEditorial442SORTB+â-ä2AUDT
