Cards take on Bulldogs

Team ready for afternoon doubleheader at Butler, hot off 3 wins in Florida.

After a successful Spring Break that saw the softball team (8-8, 2-0 Mid-American Conference) upset No. 8 Michigan and win the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, the Cardinals will return to action today in Indianapolis with a doubleheader against Butler.

The Bulldogs (6-7) spent their Spring Break in Kissimmee, Fla., at the Rebel Games, posting three wins during the weekend against Bucknell, Vermont and Wagner. Their only loss in the tournament came against Southeastern Conference-team Mississippi.

The Cardinals go into the contest fresh off several MAC honors. Junior Ruth Hjelmeland was named MAC West Division Player of the Week after hitting a pair of two-run home runs in the Indiana Invitational, both of which helped the Cardinals win games. Fellow junior Cortney Winger was named MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week after picking up three consecutive victories in the Indiana Invitational.

The Cardinals will open their home schedule this weekend, hosting MAC foe Central Michigan in a doubleheader on Saturday, and in a single game on Sunday. Both games are at 1 p.m. at the Ball State Softball Complex.
