The gymnastics team wrapped up a weekend against nationally ranked competition with a pair of losses. Despite a season-high team score and individual season-bests, the Cardinals came up short at the University of Kentucky and at Missouri University.
Friday evening in Lexington, 23rd-ranked Kentucky beat out Ball State, despite posted season-high overall scores on vault, beam and team total. The Wildcats tallied a school record-high score in the 196.1-194.825 meet. The Cards' final score was a season high and the fifth-best in school history.
Senior tri-captain Jenny Gantt picked up the team's lone individual title with her season-high 9.925 floor score.
Sophomore Quiana Williams turned in a runner-up finish on the beam with a career-best and team season-high 9.875, which tied for third among Ball State's all-time scores.
The team's difficulty continued Sunday evening at 18th-ranked Missouri. The competition was close, but the Cardinals came up short, losing 195.425-194.75. The Cards' score is the second-highest of the season, behind Friday evening's performance in Lexington.
Tri-captain Renee Planck registered the team's only individual victory Sunday. She tied for first on the beam with a career-best 9.875. Planck also finished third on bars with a 9.875 and tied for fourth on floor with a 9.75.
"Her consistency in competition is her main asset, but she has also increased her difficulty in all three events," head coach Mary Roth said.
Williams picked up her second runner-up finish of the weekend with a 9.825 vault score. She also tied for fourth on floor and placed fifth on beam.
With the pair of losses this weekend, the Cardinals fell to 10-6 overall.
