Comedian Shang Forbes will offer a humorous take on social issues tonight at 7:30 at the Student Center Tally as part of the UPB's Laughter at Half-After.

Shang has appeared on a number of TV shows, including "Keep It Real" and "Comic View Grand Stand" on BET. He has also co-starred on both "The Parent Hood" and "The Jamie Foxx Show" on the WB, as well as performing on "U.S. Comedy Arts Festival," "Def Comedy Jam," and "The Hitchhiker" on HBO. Shang has also been featured in films, "Bye Bye Love" and "Piece of Cake".

Jason Karnes, Communications Director for University Program Board, Friday's event will be Shang's first performance at Ball State.

"He's a great comedian," he said. "He's energetic and diverse, which will promote the diversity of the campus."

UPB flyers advertised the Laughter at Half-After event with Shang's picture resembling a tough-looking, serious figure. Next to his picture, a quote from Shang reads, "I can't believe they made me pose like this. I'm funny, really I am."

Shang has been known to give a "very funny performance piece," according to the Los Angeles Times. He has also received recognition from newspapers such as, the Chicago Tribune and Houston Defender.

A New York native now living in Los Angeles, Shang was once quoted in the Chicago Tribune as saying, "I thought, I could tell people about my opinions, about different things." That is exactly what Shang plans to do; along with a humourous side to it.

Doors open at 7:10 p.m. and admission is free to students and non-students. For additional assistance, people can call (765) 285-1031.
