The Muncie Mall will host its annual Moola Moola Mall-O-Ween Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. for local trick-or-treaters.
Stacey K. Merritt, marketing director and coordinator for Moola Moola Mall-O-Ween, said the annual Halloween event will provide a safe atmosphere for families and children.
"We are a community gathering place," she said. "This way, parents know that their children are safe and are receiving candy that is safe."
With the recent Internet rumor of terrorists attacking malls on Halloween this year, Merritt said that upon researching, SIMON-managed malls found no validity in the rumor. She doesn't expect any less of an outcome this year because of a terrorist Internet rumor.
"The mall is not expecting any attacks, but our first intent is to always keep everyone as safe as possible," she said. "We will have increased mall security to calm any extra anxiety that our shoppers have."
In the past, Muncie Mall has seen between 1,000 and 3,000 trick-or-treaters a night, Merritt said.
"We usually have anxious trick-or-treaters arriving a half-hour early to get candy," she said.
Merritt said that not all stores participating this year will be handing out candy. Instead, coupons for the mall and other stores, along with Pepsi merchandise will be handed out.
"Although not every store participates, employees from stores that do, dress up in costumes and stand outside their store to give candy," Merritt said.
This year's event is sponsored by First Merchants Bank. First Merchants' mascot of its children's programs, Moola Moola, will hand out goodies to trick-or-treaters. MAX 93.5 FM and WERK 104.9 FM will broadcast live from 5 to 8 p.m.
Muncie Mall is located at Granville Avenue and McGalliard.
