After six straight away matches to open the season, Ball State Soccer (4-1-1, 0-0) capped off its home opener and senior night with a 3-1 victory over Omaha (2-5-1, 0-0 Summit).
The first half saw a strong defensive showing from both teams as the half ended scoreless. Senior Alessandra Fistrovich and junior Sam Kambol both had a shot on goal in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Tristin Stuteville recorded a save in the first half.
“The first half was tough, but the second half we played a lot better and were more focused especially offensively”, Freshman Tatiana Mason said.
The second half opened up with Emily Romero giving the Mavericks the advantage to go up 1-0. The Cardinals answered back with a goal of their own by Junior Juila Elvbo to tie the game.
Mason would score in the 75 minute netting her third goal of the season and giving the Cardinals a 2-1 lead. Senior Paula Guerrero would close the door on the Mavericks scoring in the 77 minute to give the Cardinals the win, 3-1.
“I wasn’t happy with conceding the first goal, but I’m proud of the resilience the girls showed in the second half and not giving up after a tough first period.” Head coach Craig Roberts said. “I want to see us work on more clinical offensive strategies and being better defensively as the season goes on.”
