Tuesday, March 1 was known as “Super Tuesday," where both the GOP and Democratic parties held primaries or caucuses in 11 states.
Primaries are when the people of a state vote through secret ballots to nominate a candidate, and caucuses are local gatherings where voters decide which candidate to support and select delegates for the convention.

After Super Tuesday, the GOP has had 14 state primaries or caucuses, narrowing the original ballot to the following candidates: Donald J. Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Marco Rubio, Gov. John Kasich and Dr. Ben Carson. On this day, Carson and Kasich did not win any states.
Democrats have held a total of 16 state and territory primaries or caucuses between candidates Secretary Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders. The map below illustrates the results from Super Tuesday.
